Halloween

It is impossible to ignore the cultural influence Halloween has on the surrounding community. While the most of America has widely secularized Halloween, it is impossible to separate Halloween from its religious roots. Attempts to Christianize Halloween fall short due to the surrounding cultures inability to see the spiritual side of Halloween. Therefore the following policies are needed when navigating events around the Halloween season.

• Use positive language that talks about fall and harvest season. Refrain from using Halloween in any event titles.
• Refrain from incorporating concepts that celebrate Halloween’s darker elements. This includes vampires, jack o'lanterns, ghosts, goblins, and anything that celebrates death.
• These items are permissible during the Halloween season: pumpkins, harvest items such as corn stalks, hay bales.
• Candy is permitted to be exchanged. Halloween designed candy is not to be prohibited.
• Sometimes Halloween candy is particularly celebratory of the scarey nature. The church will do its best to provide candy that does not intentionally celebrate the nature of Halloween however if a participate voluntarily does so on their own it will be neither discouraged nor encouraged.
• Costumes are not to be encouraged in the Halloween season.
• Trunk-or-treat is prohibited.
